How Can You Keep Your Pet Healthy?

You want everyone in your family to be happy and healthy, and if you have a pet dog, then that means him or her, too. We’re all pretty good at staying on top of our fitness, and monitoring the health of our family members, but it becomes quite easy to turn a blind eye when it comes to your friendly pooch. Below, we take a look at a few tried and tested steps that’ll have your canine friend in good health. Remember, a healthy dog is a happy dog!

Monitor the Weight

The best, most straightforward way to keep an eye on your dog’s health is to monitor their weight. Just as with humans, if your dog weighs more than they should, then they’ll be at risk of developing many health issues. We know that life can be pretty hectic from time to time, and you’re not always going to be “on it” when it comes to managing your dog’s health (sometimes there’s not enough time to take care of our own!). But if you see that your dog is looking chunkier (or slimmer) than usual, then it’s worth investigating to see what the problem could be.

Eating Well

Just as with humans, what your dog eats will play a huge role in how overall healthy they are. There’s a big difference between the health of a dog that eats human junk food, and one that eats well-balanced, nutritious dog food. Make sure that your pet is eating the latter. Of course, you could feed your dog well and take them from regular walks, and still run into issues. There might be genetic factors at play which undermine your dog’s health. Regular trips to the vet will help to bring any issues to the fore. Also, reading up about any common genetic conditions that your breed of dog could have will help you to keep an eye out, too.

In the Home

Finally, make sure your home is safe for your pet! This means keeping any chemicals and dangerous foods well out of reach, and that they can’t get out of the home and into the dangerous outside roads.
